About
Our Story
Xaymaca was the original name of the island of Jamaica in the Taino language. The word Xaymaca is roughly translated as "land of wood and water" or "land of forests and rivers."
Today, the name Xaymaca is used as a cultural and historical term to refer to the Taino heritage of Jamaica and the island's connection with its indigenous roots. It is also used as a symbolic name to represent Jamaican identity and culture. "Out of many, one people." Xaymaca Fusion Kitchen is the first Jamaican-Peruvian fusion restaurant in the DMV. Born from an unlikely friendship: a Jamaican chef-restaurateur and two Peruvian chefs-who came together as a family filled with culinary passion. Together, we discovered that our cultures, separated by oceans, share African roots, a passion for bold flavors, and a philosophy of life.
Love for people and the table as an altar. Here, the Peruvian yellow chili merges with the Jamaican Scotch Bonnet pepper, the Peruvian pisco with the Jamaican rum, and each dish tells a story of encounters. We are not a restaurant, but a home where borders are blurred and the only thing that matters is to share our deliciousness with you!
This menu is a tribute to the roots, techniques, and flavors that unite Jamaica and Peru. Each dish is a conversation between two cultures, two stories, and two passions, that explains our mantra: ONE food, ONE love.
With love:
Gregory, Judy, and Joao.
